• Description
The Portacal 275 is an accurate, handheld, signal source and loop
tester for milliamp, millivolt and voltage signals. It can be used in four
modes:
voltage source, which simulates auxiliary powered transmitters with
proportional voltage outputs;
millivolt source, which simulates many common plant based signals;
current source, which simulates auxiliary powered transmitters with
proportional current outputs;
current sink mode,
which simulates 2-wire (loop powered) transmitter
outputs.
The Portacal 275 has an accurate lockable dial scaled in 0.1 %
increments from 0 to 100 %. By using the dial in combination with the
output value switch, you can quickly and accurately (typically within
±
0.25 %) dial up any signal value in the field without a digital meter for
indication. For more accurate bench work (to within ±0.1 %) you can
measure the outputs with a multimeter.
Current sink mode (simulates 2-wire transmitter operation)
1. Select sink mode with ‘source/sink mode’ lockable switch.
2. S
elect 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA range.
3. Set the ‘voltage/millivolt select’ switch to the 0-200 mV position.
4. Connect the instrument up as shown above.
To monitor the output, connect a multimeter across V+ and V-. The
v
oltage terminals will output 0-200 mV for 0-20 mA.
To increase the loop load by 250 Ω, put the Voltage/millivolt switch in
the 0-5 V position.
